Step 1
Cut the canvas to size
Use the included canvas guide and leave a small margin around the edges. You can trim excess after the resin has fully cured.
Plush yarn texture
Learn the latch hook tools, how to prep your canvas, and how to make consistent yarn knots.
You will learn the following:
Latch hooking pulls yarn through a grid-like canvas to create plush designs and textures. A latch hook catches and knots yarn onto the canvas.
If you prefer to customize yarn lengths, a yarn cutting guide helps keep every piece consistent. Pre-cut yarn packs are convenient when the pattern uses several colors.
The canvas is usually made from a stiff grid material. Reinforce the edges of the completed work with UV resin or glue so the project stays protected.
These basic supplies will equip you for starting your latch hooking journey, whether you aim for simple designs or more intricate patterns.
Setup
Cut and reinforce the canvas before latching so it stays strong while you work.
Step 1
Use the included canvas guide and leave a small margin around the edges. You can trim excess after the resin has fully cured.
Step 2
Apply a thick bead of resin around the canvas perimeter. Cover the table and follow the manufacturer's safety guidance.
Step 3
Use a UV light or place the canvas outdoors until the resin is fully cured and strong enough for latching.

UV resin is a type of synthetic resin that cures or hardens when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. Unlike traditional resins, which require mixing of components and a long curing time, UV resin is a one-part system that solidifies quickly, often within minutes, when placed under a UV lamp. This makes it ideal for small craft projects, jewelry making, and coatings, where precision and speed are essential.
You can purchase UV resin and curing lamps online or at local hobby and craft stores.
Technique
Work row by row, starting from the bottom and moving upward, to avoid accidentally catching yarn from a higher row in your latch.

Step 1
Insert the hook under the double thread of the canvas until the latch passes through, then catch the loop of a folded yarn piece.

Step 2
Pull the hook to bring the yarn loop under the canvas threads.

Step 3
Push the hook and latch back through the yarn loop, catching both yarn ends with the hook.

Step 4
Pull the hook back to bring the yarn ends through the loop.

Step 5
Gently tug the yarn ends to tighten the knot.
Tip
Be sure to use a Yarn Cutter Guide to ensure your yarn pieces are uniform in length.

Tip
If your canvas pulls apart during latching, repair it by applying a small amount of resin and letting it cure.
